pine can talk NNTP, but in a limited manner. The last time I checked, it
couldn't thread articles, and had no concept of kill files (VV important when
usenet browsing).

Mutt can thread, and does a damn good job of it for me re LIH, it is finally,
a mail client. It cannot be a news reader. The support is not there at all.

slrn is the NNTP equivalent of mutt. Simple to use, small, but extremely
powerful. Console based. A superb kill file concept. Various other things.
