Run sendmail daemon with -q[TIME] option..
for example,
this will process ur queue in every 30 mins ..
sendmail -q30m

kmail (gui, requires kde-network package to be installed) is also useful
and ofcourse out good old netscape gives you option for retrieving mail
from pop/imap servers ..
