First of all do not keep mtu and mru same. The mru should be less than mtu
by atleast 16.
Secondly mtu, mru and other host of variables are negotiated after the ppp
link is established. The isp will first default to 1500 and then after
negotiations it will be changed to desired value. To confirm run 'ifconfig
ppp0' after fully establishing the connection.
Lastly these variable need to be changed vary carefully after lots of
experimentation, else your speed will drop dramatically. I have done lots of
experimentation on this and can post a detail write up if need.
