Hi Sibayan,

I did not get you what you want to say.
If the user has the privilege of rebooting the machine, then at the lilo prompt
he can give "linux single"
and after that he can use the passwd command to change the root password to some
thing new.
why to do all these things?

Sorry, if i am asking some thing childish. pl. explain.

Bye,
Srinivas.A.V.

Mr. Santanu Garg,

I'm extremely sorry for my previous day's behaviour. I was very disturbed.
Anyway you can get the root access as well as any forgotten password user
access by using the following steps.

************************************DISCLAIMER******************************
***************
I'm giving you this information for emergency root access gain only. You
shouldn't use this for other perpose
****************************************************************************
******************
1. At LILO (LInux LOder) promt type "linux single".-------- It'll give you a
single user interface.
2.Press enter.
3.Where ever you're doesn't matter, type "vipw"
4.You'll see something like this : a)
root:FC6XUtvRxVcWU:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash halt:x:7:0:halt:/sbin:/sbin/halt
                                                    Or
b)root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash halt:x:7:0:halt:/sbin:/sbin/halt
5.If you see a), type ":q!" ;-) You've done you 70% job.
6.Then type "vi /etc/passdw" bingo passwd file'll open you'll see
lines like a) and others.
7.Bring your cursor just after "root:" Remember after ":"
8.Press "x" - key of your keyboard 13 times.
9.Press "Esc"
10.Press ":wq"
11.Shut down and reboot your system. At the User promt type "root" leave the
password promt blank and press "Enter"
                                                         --------- You're in
the "root"
12.If you see b), -------- Don't be upset. Your job is 50%
done.
13.Type "vi /etc/shadow"
14.Then follw steps from 7 to 11.

I think your success rate'll be 100%. If not then wait for your brother.
'Cause I wont tell you 'bout the other ways. But if you see the "vi" is not
working then tell me, I'll tell you another way.
****************************************************************************
**********************

Happy Hacking ;-)
Sibayan
