Try this..it might help. I had written it long ago for a friend.

Ensure u are running lpd ( run setup, system services)
1) run printtool from a terminal within X
2) choose add/local printer and if any ports are detected, add the
approprite
filter and u are done.
3) if no ports are detected as in my case, open the file /etc/conf.modules
and
add the following two lines to it.
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options parport_pc io=0x378,0x278 irq=7,auto
i guess u should probably reboot ur system and run printool again to detect
ur ports. u can probably do the same from kernal configurator within
control-panel..i am not too sure.
