Why do you want an internal modem *ONLY* ? I don't get it. [
Unless its a laptop ] .. IMHO, Go for an external modem if you
can.. because I *did* read some report[s] long ago, before I bought
*My* internal modem [ ;) ] and discovered that given the present
conditions of heat/temperatures/etc.. its wiser to go for an external
modem, if you can.
Anyways, I'm using a Xircom Creditcard 56k PCMCIA CreditCard
Modem in this laptop, and it works great, under Windows
95/98/2000/RedHat/Debian/Corel/SuSE/WinLinux(!)/BeOS 4.0
I *assume* that a USR 56k should be okay too, but I don't
know.
Check out www.linmodems.org and also the FAQ of the
Linux-Kernel Mailing List - www.tux.org/lkml/ - they had some info on
how to check if a modem is a winmodem or not... blah blah...and as to
why a winmodem wont work under linux... and how *some* winmodem's now
really work under linux.. etc. etc.
I also know that my brother uses a Diamond Supra Express 56k
Internal under Debian/Win98 ... so that's another one.. but, *I*
personally am *NEVER* gonna buy a modem from a guy that makes video
cards :)
Cheers.
Ravi.
