The specs u have given in Ur letter are not enough to diagonise the
problem. If U can pls kindly specify the application which is creating
such a problem we can help U better. Because some application like
staroffice and corel wp8 have there own printer setup tools and u have
to change the specs there in the application itself. 

But If U r using the Redhat distro then I believe U have used the
PrintTool to configure the printer so shoot the application once again
then remove all the printers available there.Now click on add and then u
will find the menu where U have to select the printer. And the all U
need to do is select the menu for test and so all the tests like ascii
print test and postscript print test and so and if this is working fine
means that your printer has been configured properly.

Now back to Debian I believe that there should be a similar util to
configure the printer so search the kde menues for printer setup
utility. Else use the linuxconf like util for Debian. There, I am sure
there will be a menu for the printer configuration.
