I tried installing SuSE on a friends machine but gave up because
it demands that all the partitions that are to be used by SuSE
Linux be contiguous. See, I have my partitions like this:

primary:
/dosc
/
swap
extended:
/dosd
/usr
/usr/local
/home

SuSE refused to install on such a partitioning scheme. I did not
go beyond this because I just did not want to alter the
partitioning scheme. I would like to know whether SuSE lets you
decide the mount points for various file systems or not if you
give it all the linux partitions contiguous.

BTW I was unble to create the above partitions with DiskDruid
that comes with RH 6.1. Druid also seemed to decide the dos and
linux mount points on its own. e.g. as soon as you say you want a
FAT partition it pushes it to /dev/hda5 whether you want it there
or not. The earlier RH 5.0 (PCQ May 1998) gave a choice of using
Druid or fdisk during the installation. I still use that CD to
make the partitions that I want as I want with fdisk and then
abort the installation. Then I reboot using the RH6.1 CD and it
lets me install on the existing partitions. This will not work
with SuSE if you want your partitions to be similar to mine.

SuSE also uses RPMs so one can browse the apps (rpm -q -p) and
install something really good on a RH system. If you do that I
will appreciate if you share your experiences. I liked
'bluefish'.
