Are you installing on a clean formatted partition? If so, then choose
custom installation and do a minimum install. Also check whether
autoexec.bat contains the entry C:\windows\rundll32.exe . That might be
the source of problems. (my pirated copy of Win98 never gave any problems
until I broke the CD.)
