pnpdump shows isapnp cards and lspci shows the pci cards.

If it is compiled into the kernel, it gets automagically detected if
it is there ( and if all the hardcoded settings match ).

Yes, they do have sound support unlike debian 2.1 kernel.

It depends on what PCI card you have and it pays to have a look at the
hardware compatibility list and the kernel sound documentation which
will let you know whether the PCI card works in Linux and if so what
the drivers would be like kernel modules ( or alsa modules ).
