Use wvdial. Its an excellent staff. It is available
in the PCQ Nov CD 6.1. Go through the man pages.
in the /etc/wvdial.conf file put the following string
Init1 = ATI ( for PowerTel Boca 128E)
Init1 = ATB40 (for Zyxel omninet)
