Well, Satyam does'nt have a news server. So you will have to look for
a public news server that allows you all the facilities of
usenetting. Check out this url <www.newzbot.com> for a list of
servers that are sorted by speed. I think <news.buzzardnews.com> is
fast(er) than the VSNL news server, but it does not allow posting.
You can get all the details from the site anyway!!
ASking the chaps at the BBSR help desk is a pain, they'll point out
most things pertaining to Win98 based connections, but when you tell
them that even Outlook Express has support for newsgroups, you'll be
met with a blank.

If you subscribed to some group like alt.poetry from Deja and are
getting no messages, i have doubts about the traffic in the group...
And yes, you are probably better off using usenet readers like krn
while starting out, later try Gnus
