Hello Mr.Shanu & others

Thanks for your help in configuring X-server on i810 & the SoundMax on i810
chipset motherboard. I have done exactly as you have suggested but i could not
configure the Sound. (I could configure the X-server -- Thank you)

After untarring & unzipping the driver file & after adding lines in
/etc/conf.modules &running make & make install it has given me a message
saying that skew updated your alsa drivers updated and also gave a meesage
saying that by default sound will be muted after going thro' the Readme file I
found that I have to run amixer in /dev/snd. But to my surprise this directory
of /dev/snd is not existing.

What should I do? Will the same work on a i810 Tomato board having Crysatl
codec sound card?

Awaiting for your reply. I thank you once again for all the help you are
extending.

Ravi

Hi dudes,

Do the foll...

1. Download and un-compress alsa-driver 0.5.7 from
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-0.5.7.tar.bz2
2. CD to the alsa-driver source directory and run:
        # ./configure --with-cards=intel8x0
        # make
        # make install
3. Add the following lines to /etc/conf.modules
                -------<>--------
        alias char-major-116 snd
        alias char-major-14 soundcore
        alias snd-card-0 snd-card-intel8x0
        alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
        alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
        alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
        alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
        alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
        alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
                --------<>--------

4. Run 'depmod -a' to update module dependency info.

That's it!

This has been tested on SoundMax and intel i810(?) generic audio
chipset.
