Hi people,
Here is the problem I am facing.
My network connection is unable to connect to anywhere outside the
machine.
Symptoms are as follows :
1. o/p of dmesg
eth0 : Realtex RTL 8139 Fast Ethernet at 0xe800, IRQ = 10.
2. BIOS reflection at power-on
RT 8139 at IRQ 10.
3. /etc/conf.modules
options ne io=0xe800 irq = 10
alias eth0 rtl8139
option ne2k-pci
option rtl8139
4. The light on the card [none of the two LEDs] glow. At all.
5. loopback device works : ping 127.0.0.1 works with some 250 ms avg
time.
6. o/p of ifconfig
eth0 : Lot os stuff. [No errors.]
7. o/p of ifconfig eth0 up/down is silent. Nothing echoed.
8. The error at startup is this..
Setting up network device eth0 DONE.
Setting up routing [/etc/route.conf]
Error while executing
/sbin/route add default gw 192.168.15.1
SIOCADDRT
Network is unreachable.
9. And at shutdown it is...
SIOCDELRT
No such process.
The machine is running SuSE 6.3 and is connected using an ATP cable
to the router of hostel-1, IIT B. The connection was live some days
back on another machine and right now I am unable to check even if
the plug is pulled off the hub. Will check today.
Seems that the modules etc are loading properly... what can it be?
Cable? Hub connection? The IP addresses are correct. Zara dekho to.
