The message on /var/log/messages is as below fro RH6.2:

modeprobe:modeprobe:can't locate module block-major-22
last message repeated 3 times
pppd[814]:hangup(SIGHUP)
pppd[814]:modem hangup
pppd[814]:connection terminated
pppd[814]:exit
your comments on this error message please....
