[LIH] Problems in mounting cd rom

Hi,

We were working on our linux machine (and it's CD ROM) quite happily.
Suddenly the machine hung giving some ATAPI error messages.
We rebooted the machine and now we find that we're not able to mount the CD
properly.
It gives message
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/cdrom as a block device
       (maybe +AGA-insmod driver'?)
May  4 14:42:56 diffs-india modprobe: can't locate module block-major-22

What can be theproblem and what do I do ?? Is this a h/w problem.
