This is a m/b typically from the period when SDRAM was just coming in and was pretty expensive. The m/b manufaturers did provide both the slots in the m/bs but that doesnt necessarily guarantee that it will work. This is such a funny area that anything is possible. I have seen cases when the new RAM is not detected at all.. I know it sounds wierd but one common reason is because the SDRAM slots are faulty. So please check that too! In one of the cases the m/b had to be changed. Yes changing voltage might help. Usually the jumpers are placed just below the slot. But try consulting the m/b manual first. EDO and SDRAMs placed together most of the times wont be recongnised but even if it is.. it may not be a good idea for 2 reasons, 1. it leads to inumerable page faults making the system very unstable most of the time. 2. the EDO ram will drastically pulls down the performance of the SDRAM As far as using a pc-100 ram is concerned. It works most of the time if you are underclocking the ram to 66 mhz... just that it doesnt have the 100mhz performance anymore. It works. But it wont work the other way. pushing pc-66 for 100mhz is a bad idea. One more reason may be because... in these old m/bs one slot cannot handle more the 32 mb. so try plugging in 16 mb or 32 mb sdram slots and see if it works. may be it will work. But at the end of it.. i must say one thing... which i am sure of. All this is really based on the architecture and support provided by the m/b manufacturer. So these solutions are really on a case by case basis and mostly trial and error. You have to take your chances. Look at the brighter aspect. May be this is the AI's way telling you... buddy... u deserved to have a new system :) all the best to you. -- On Sat, 6 May 2000 07:18:50 Vighnaharta Systems wrote: >Hi Madhesh > >Check the speed of your SDRAM.
