How are you connecting the devices ? If it is pass through cables then they should work automagically. You need to make sure that the parport modules is running in the kernel. I have a Diamond RIO dock connected to the parallel port along with the printer and $lsmod gives the following: parport_probe 2980 0 (autoclean) parport_pc 7188 1 (autoclean) lp 4508 0 (unused) You don't even need anything special for RIO in this case.
