first,
thanks sudhakar for making me feel welcome. for atleast not
making me feel outright stupid. thanks again.
as a last shot i am posting some more details about the
trouble i am having configuring my modem. hopefully they
should make sense to somebody. if not, i think i shall go
for an external modem.
a) these are the cat /proc outputs after the soundcard had
been configured using oss:
1) output of cat /proc/interrupts:
0: 107408 XT-PIC timer
1: 278 XT-PIC keyboard
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
3: 10179 XT-PIC serial
5: 0 XT-PIC Analog Devices AD1816
8: 2 XT-PIC rtc
9: 0 XT-PIC MPU-401 UART
13: 1 XT-PIC fpu
14: 298631 XT-PIC ide0
NMI: 0
2) output of cat /proc/ioports:
0000-001f: dma1
0020-003f: pic1
0040-005f: timer
0060-006f: keyboard
0070-007f: rtc
0080-008f: dma page reg.
00a0-00bf: pic2
00c0-00df: dma2
00f0-00ff: fpu
0100-010f: Analog Devices AD1816
01f0-01f7: ide0
0203-0203: PnP read port
02f8-02ff: serial (auto)
0330-0333: MPU-401 UART
0388-038b: OPL3/OPL2
03c0-03df: vga+
03f6-03f6: ide0
03f8-03ff: serial (auto)
f000-f007: ide0
f008-f00f: ide1
3) output of cat /proc/dma:
0: Analog Devices AD1816
3: Analog Devices AD1816
4: cascade
b) the isapnp.conf file generated by using pnpdump with the
-c switch had the following
values:
(IO 0 (SIZE 8) (BASE 0x02F8) (CHECK)
(INT 0 (IRQ 4 (MODE +E)))
execution of the above command gave the error message about
fatal resource conflict allocating 8 bytes at 2f8. i tried
substituting various values which were not in use by the
system, such as 03e8, the address which win98 uses for the
same modem, to no avail.
i am aware this is a rather long posting and i don't know
whether i am violating any unstated convention, but i think
it is rather worth it atleast as a last shot when you
consider the fact that i have to shell out about 3500 bucks
for an external modem.
any help would be invaluable, regards, subash.
