Mail
We have a mail gateway which recieves the mail for the domain nal.res.in
and forwards it to other nodes (A.nal.res.in, B.nal.??? etc.) which
have private IP addresses. In the
external DNS, the MX records for nodes A and B are listed as the mail
gateway. We need to run a DNS with the internal IP addresses and in which
the MX for node A is A, and so on, to make it work. Without the internal
nameserver, mails bounce back with the errror
"Local configuration error" ..
" MX list for A.nal.res.in points back to mail.nal.res.in"D
My question is : Can we do this using only the /etc/hosts file without the
internal nameserver ?
The file /etc/nsswitch.conf has the entry
hosts: files nisplus nis dns
What changes in the sendmail configuration are needed to make it look in
the hosts (or some other file) instead of the DNS ?
