Hi,
in your /etc/lilo.conf, there should be a line like 

boot=/dev/hda

change it to 

boot=/dev/hdax

where hdax is the root partition of your linux partition.

That way you won't need to use NTloader, but you can use a boot
manager or set active partition manually ( not recommended ).

That you you won't have to always do a dd whenever you change the
kernel.
Or best way is to remove ntldr from MBR ( don't ask me how :-) and put
lilo in MBR and make NT an option in Lilo.
