/etc/sendmail.cf has comments for _every_ line, and you don't need to
tweak any of the rulesets, just alter a couple of flags here and there.
Unless you want to accept and deliver mail for more than one domain, you
won't need sendmail.cw
See http://linuxindia.virtualave.net (the VSNL howto) for more on setting
up sendmail.cf
Basically, your sendmail will route mail through an smtp server if you set
the DS flag in sendmail.cf
for example
DS hd2.dot.net.in
or
DS [202.54.30.2]
As for smtp servers like yahoo and mailandnews.com, they are not open
relays, and hence, won't relay for you unless one or more of these are
true:
1. The from: address is set to user@[yahoo.com|mailandnews.com]
2. You check your mail with the yahoo / mailandnews pop account first (at
least for mailandnews, this is true afaik) [pop before smtp, smtpAUTH or
something similar)
I suggest you stick to your ISP's smtp server if he gives you one. If not,
it will be a royal pain using other smtp servers _legally_ (which means,
not setting DS [some.random.open.relay] - which several people here do) :(
... and please - nobody give me any crap about RFC 821/822 stating that
the function of an smtp server is to relay for all and sundry who want to
dump stuff through it ...
