The decent free (as in zero cost) ones are sympa, listar, mailman and mj 1
and mj2.

Here are /my/ impressions on these:

Sympa: Most of the documentation, at least when I played around with it, is
in french.

listar: I don't remember exactly what I didn't like about it.  I think its
web interface was broken when I tried it.

mailman: One word - python.

mj1: The workhorse of mailing list management.  Pain in the ass to install
and run.  The beauty of it is it works.

mj2: Rewritten from ground up.  MIME aware.  Includes code contribution by
yours truly ;-).  Problem is it is still in beta and not too widely known.
