Hi
Run sndconfig as root and hope it configures your sound card. Also try
alsa drivers. Check out www.alsaproject.org. Check the url. I don't
remember it exactly.
If you have YMF 724 card(aka Mercury) forget it. It does not run under
linux, unless you use OSS drivers which are not free.
Correct me if I am wrong.
