hi! i'm new to the list and also new to Linux/ GNU/Linux. i have a question for you: two days back i visited gnu.org and found a list of non-english equivalents to the phrase "free software". when i sent a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to request to add the tamil equivalent to the phrase, i got a passionate reply. Mr. Richard Stallman's assistant, whose name esc.s me, told me that i shouldn't use the phrase Linux as an operating system and that Linux is just a kernel. he said GNU/Linux is the OS and that the hard work of the GNU people has gone uncredited and the myth that Linux is an OS keeps spreading. i apologized and started using the term GNU/Linux. later, Mr. Richard Stallman also suggested an alternative phrase for "free software", picking from my own options for the phrase. though i'd corrected myself, i forgot to correct my .sig which reads "Linux: It's now safe to turn on your computer". Mr. Stallman's assistant pointed it out and suggested that i correct it into "GNU/Linux (...)". now what do you guys think? - Diwakar _____________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________ Get your free email 6 MB from www.thamizh.com Our Other portals: www.teleindia.com www.tamil.com www.chennai.net www.tamilnadu.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LIH is all for free speech.
