Hi,

Does anyone know how to use md5 passwords with /etc/openldap/slapd.conf? I
tried generating an md5 hash using "echo <secret_pw> | md5sum" and pasting
the result in rootpw field in /etc/openldap/slapd.conf - doesn't work. The
same happens if I try pasting entry from /etc/shadow (I have md5 passwords
enabled), but that doesn't work either.

The changes to the rootdn entry in rootdn: look like this..

rootdn: {MD5}<md5_hash_pasted_from_above_two_methods>

Still doesn't work. I remember reading something about base16 and base64
encoding in context with md5 hashes and rootdn. But don't seem to find the
relavent info at openldap.org now. Nor does md5sum have any option to
output the hash in base16 (the default with md5sum is base64).

Any suggestion will be great.

Regards,
Kedar.
