Yours is prolly a dma problem. Never had one, so not sure.
If the filesystem is messed up, not much you can do except run a 
fsck. If it is gone real bad, try some recovery tool. Next time you 
install Linux, make different partitions for /home,/usr and /. That 
way, you don't lose much of the essentials. Get an UPS.
