[LIH] Soft Realtime application

Dear Gurus,
For a soft realtime application ( serial port handling at 4800 baud ,
and the rest  only  some windowing/ data entry, simple arithmatic), 365
daysx24 hrs use,  can somebody give comments on use of Linux  vs
WindowsNT,  if it is not out of place.  Hope some of you would have
experienced both.
