kala , thanx for listening ;o) no it is able to make connection now,
bcuz now it is returning some ORA-ERROR , so it is atleast attempting to
make connection with the database server. yes, earlier problem went away
when i put a entry for server-machine in the /etc/hosts. will have to
fix this ORA-Error now, downloaded JDBC developer's guide from oracle
technet , will go thru it :o)

server is on unix machines , and we sure make lotta use of ur gray
