i faced the same thing few days before. and went for the brute force way,
i.e deleting the symlinks from /etc/rc.d/rc3.d , but as was very rightly
pointed out , this is not the proper way to do it. so use ntsysv to
add/delete the list of daemons.
man ntsysv
man chkconfig
man tksysv
as for adding this new apache httpd that u have generated, apache docs.
otherwise brute force :
change the paths in httpd script kept in
/etc/rc.d/init.d
and point them to ur_apache_dir_path
