Yes. It would be helpful if you knew the block size used when tarring on
the HP machine. When you issue the untar command on Linux you can pass the
block size a parameter. Read the man page for tar.
Briefly, the command will look something like 'tar xvf /dev/tape' where
/dev/tape is your tape drive.
