It complained when I used the SDL rpms on SUSE. So left it at that.
Later I downloaded the Mandrake SDL RPMs and tried them on a friends
system. No complaints...works like a charm.

I think the SDL version was 1.13 or something...Will catch up and
report later. Anyway, you should get the latest tarballs and try.
They WILL work.
