bzip2 and gzip are both used for compressing data  y option of tar is 
to refer to decompress/compress with bzip2 and z option for gzip.bzip2 
has been written as replacement for gzip.bzip2 gives better compression 
ratios but on the other hand is more memory-greedy.gzip is more 
widespread than bzip2.maybe bzip2 will replace gzip,maybe not
