(1024x768/(1024x1024)x(24/8)x 4 = 9 MB exact. So any 8 MB card will screw up most seriously and will be performance hampered definitely. It is a better idea to have 1 desktop with changing wallpapers if you feel like. Probably a larger virtual desktop if you want.
