Hi all,
Can anyone help me figure out a modus operandi to use tape backups under
linux??
I have the tape drive working, and I have managed to get mt and tar
working with the tape drive - meaning I can make a tar archive on the tape
and restore it.
The exact info I am looking for is modus operandi for tape backups.. Stuff
like how do I automate the thing? How do I position the tape at a
particular archive (for recovery)??
Another problem is earsing the tape. I tried mt -f /dev/st0 erase, and the
thing never finished. I couldn't kill the mt process by sending signals
either.
Here are hardware details.. machine: Compaq Proliant, duel P-III@500MHz.
With NCR SCSI adaptor and a HP 8i SCSI tape drive.
TIA,
Kedar.
