IMO , the sheer volume of help , How To's,code etc.. available for linux ,
make it possible to figure out for yourself, how to go about,
particular any task. To learn about the system, experience of
hacking into the innerds of software as well as the hardware & cables
(i.e networking) _ yourself_ is second to none. A guru as you say has had to
go through the above at some point of time or the other.
