Sorry for posting in seperate threads but i just cant resist quake
queries. :)

You can do what Mrinal sez, or disable sound with the console command
"s_initsound" toggled to zero.

In config.cfg add the line 

set s_initsound "0"

I have not tried it myself, let me know if it works. :)
