Congratulations. A little reading of the archives helps :). I did two
of those.

Internal modem? and Rockwell drivers? Sounds like a winmodem. Look for
drivers online. You will get those if you are lucky. Otherwise, change
your modem.
Winmodems need special drivers which are available only for windows :(
Most of the work for surfing is done in s/w instead of hardware in such
modems. So they will not work without drivers.

I use the compress option for pppd to increase my speed. Try fiddling
around with your registry settings for ppp, it might work. Also, a good
modem will help in speeding things up a bit, but not much.
