Subject: Mailing problem in RH 6.2
Dear Sir,
We had one Sun Solaris machine for our Mailserver with a static address.
This machine has developed a snag and is down. We have put LinuxRH6.2 on a
new machine and configured it for mail with static ip etc.
When we used the sun server earlier in the mailx -v <email address>, it
used to first connect to ...mp ether and then accept the mail. All the
incoming and outgoing mail were handled by it in a jiffy and no waiting
was required.
Now in the Linux when we use the mail -v <email address>, it tries to
connect to the concerned remote machine and waits for a response. In case
it is unable to reach the remote machine within about 60 seconds, it gets
queued and stays on the server for as long as 4 hours!
I have checked that the sendmail config file is okay and the eth0 is also
up. Our gateway is through the IDU of our own VSAT. The process appears as
though the mail path is completely ignoring the gateway and the IDU is
working just like a hub. As a result we have inordinate delays in sending
and receiving mails. Could you suggest a remedy for this problem?
