think it is better to have a /etc/hosts file with the following from ur
network

IPADDRESS machine_name netbios_name

I will add mine here

127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.1.1 www.digitel.in mail.digitel.in ftp.digitel.in rhl
192.168.1.51 digitel.digitel.in digitel
192.168.1.53 suse.digitel.in suse mariatho

I have three machines, rhl (www.digitel.in) this machine, where i
use linux 24 hr. digitel, (digitel.digitel.in) a win machine
where the family uses mail and www and all other win apps
suse(when running linux) and mariatho(when windows) is another
one which does not have suse linux, but once had, and now is
running win97/Zoot/Potato in multiboot.
I have no problems in telnet, mailto on linux, samba for printing,
and family uses outlook express from win, every thing is a breeze.
I use squid proxy, as well as IP forwarding.
