in the exim config file, set

host_accept_relay = "lsearch;/etc/mail/relay-domains:192.168.96/24"

When checking for this, items are searched for in a left to right order ... if
the host is not found in relay-domains, it checks localhost. The first item
looks up the incoming host's name. Or you can put explicit ip addresses /
blocks first in the list in that line itself.

Read the exim faq from http://www.exim.org please :)
