Hi, After using the tape device /dev/st0 I could backup on the tape drive. Even two sessions were created ( i.e. data appended to the same tape ) using KDAT - KDE Tape backup tool. However we want to backup using tar. So we tried with tar command. It copied the data to the tape. When tried with the tar -rvf /dev/st0 it listed the contents of the tape. Now the fishy part. When tried to append to the tape using tar -rvf /dev/st0 it gives the following error : st0: Error with sense data: Info fld=0x3c, Current st09:00: sense key Illegal Request Additional sense indicates Write append error tar: /dev/st0: Cannot write: Input/output error tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now st0: Error with sense data: Info fld=0x1, Current st09:00: sense key Illegal Request Additional sense indicates Write append error st0: Error on write filemark. What could be the reason for the above error. Appending does not seem to be working with tar. One more thing I noticed is that If I use KDAT to view the contents of the tape backed up with tar than it does not work. You have to backup using KDAT than only you can view the contens of the tape using KDAT. Any help for appending to tape using tar ? Thanks in advance.
