I would have suggested getting the sources and compiling - there are
too many issues involved while installing an RPM from one distro on
another.

This also looks like incompatibility issues. I am not sure if it the SCO
binary that is looking in /etc/defaults/lang or the SuSE RPM, but I am
sure you are better off by getting the sources and compiling. 

rpm -qi <rpmname> will give you the source RPM's name. Get that file and
use rpm --rebuild <source rpm name> to get binary RPMs for your distro.

One more point - the SuSE RPM you installed was for kernel 2.2.13. Your
RedHat kernel is 2.2.14. There are going to be incompatibilities.
