TURBOLINUX SHOW'S FIRST DEMONSTRATION OF 16-WAY INTEL ITANIUM PROCESSOR ON
LINUX
TurboLinux Inc.and NEC Solutions announced the world's first public
demonstration of a 64-bit Linux operating system on a 16-way Intel Itanium
processor-based system at the TurboLinux booth during LinuxWorld Conference
& Expo. AzusA, the NEC code name for its prototype 16-processor Itanium
system, will display demonstrations of Mandelbrot and Ray Tracing on the
TurboLinux for IA-64 developer's release operating system, modified by NEC.
The TurboLinux IA-64 release is based on the kernel and tools developed by
the IA-64 Linux Project, a group of companies that include TurboLinux,
Caldera, CERN, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Red Hat, SuSE, SGI, and VA
Linux. The commercial release of TurboLinux's IA-64 Linux offerings and the
commercial release of NEC's 16-way AzusA Itanium system will coincide with
Intel's general release of IA-64 Itanium processor-based platforms.
