CDROM can be shared between Linux and Win. On linux U setup the samba
server, use swat to share the cdrom file system. U can now see that from
ur windows, in NetworkNeighbourhood, and map the same...

Modem I doubt, like when U have CDROM, the device(physical) is under the
control of Linux. Ony it is affering file sharing services to Win host. So
what such service do U expect to get using Modem
