First of all, Which Flavor of Linux do you use? Try RH 6.2. here are the
settings for XConfigurator:
1. select sis6326 card
2. (custom) monitor extended svga
3. video ram 8 mb
4. resolution 800x600 at 16 bpp
other thing, you cannot get X running when you have XF86Config files at many
places, let's say if you have XF86Config file in your /etc folder then the
file in /etc/X11 won't work since X finds the file there (at /etc). Try
removing all XF86Config files then run Xconfigurator. Hope that works. I am
also attaching one XF86Config file from my older RH 6.1 Linux System. Yes I
have that stupid sis 6326 card. I remember, when I tried to install RH on my
friends system, the X was bothering very much, after much trouble I found
out that the monitor was the culprit, I changed the monitor, that was LG
with my Samtel 15"; then it worked. See the attachment, you can find the
XF86Config; copy that file to your /etc folder. Good Luck.
