We have a RH 6.2 server which servers as the internet gateway for our workgroup using squid. We use RH or Gnome dialer to connect to the net manually. Enabled dial-on-demand once but its too much of a problem as it fires up a connection at the drop of a hat (dns one of course ;->>, in addition to workers getting connectivity when not intended). On the other hand, dialing up manually everyday & redialling everytime the connection breaks is too much to bother our overworked newbie SysAdmin ;-)). We would like to use a something that would enable a cron job to keep the net connected for a fixed time every day. In addition, we should be able to hand over the non-routine connectivity requirement to our admin staff (no telnet please...strict icon clickers here ;->, though we intend to change that soon). What we want is some script they can run from their win-dozing mc, by clicking a link, for connecting or disconnecting from the net. Hope someone can suggest some solutions & point to the resources for delving deeper. With best regards. Sanjay. ---------------------------------------------- Find out more about this and other Linux India mailing lists at http://lists.linux-india.org/
