First of all why do you want to install RH6.1 and then upgrade to 6.2? Just
install RH6.2 and then get the latest updates from the RedHat site.
If you already have windows on your system, you may have to split the C:
drive and create a 20MB partition for /boot. This must be within the first
1024 cylinders of the harddisk. You can use FIPS available of PCQ RH6.2
CD(in dosutils directory). Read the FIPS documentation carefully.
Next boot from the RH6.2 CD and select Custom install. You can create the
following logical partitions from fdisk/disk druid
/ - 200MB
/home - 1GB
swap - 200MB
/usr - 1.5GB
and assign the mount point /boot to the 20MB partition.
(you can change the above to suit your needs)
Select the packages you require.... Install lilo in the first sector of the
boot partition and not the MBR.
After install if the system boots to windows, run fdisk and change the
active partition. Reboot and at the lilo prompt type linux.
You can use wvdial/kwvdial/RH-PPP dialer/kppp to connect to the net. These
can be configured easily. You need X to run kwvdial/RH-PPP/kppp. Do not
forget to put noauth in the file /etc/ppp/options. I am not sure whether the
internal modem is supported under Linux
If you have any problems, then write back and will be glad to help you.
