Just try this:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/nfs status
This should show the following output
rpc.statd (pid ####) is running
rpc.mountd (pid ####) is running
nfsd (pid #### #### #### ... ) is running
rpc.rquotad (pid ####) is running
If the output does not show as shown, one of the services needed for nfs is
not running. Check if portmapper, nfsd, mountd are running. Hope this
will work

I am trying to mount nfs by giving
mount <server-name>:<directory> <mount-point>
eg: mount orion.svrec.ernet.in:/usr/doc /mnt/pub
it is giving error
mount: RPC:Program not registered
I am using RH 5.2
I wrote entry
/usr/doc in orion.svrec.ernet.in and gave command exportfs
can u plzz tell what to do
