Hi,
It sounds similar .As far as I know if you create a ntfs partition in a an 
extended dos partition,fdisk wont be able to detect the partition(ntfs 
partition) to remove it.It also wont permit you to remove the extended 
partition as it still contains other partitions (the ntfs partition).What i 
Recommend is you use an advanced third party disk utily or Nt disk 
administrator (Sorry Iam not too familiar with linux disk partitioning 
utility ,any pointers are welcome)and try removing them .You can also use 
the lock command(thats in the nt4 cd setup kit ) to gain exclusive access to 
the disk you are about to use(any pointers to similar utility  in linux 
).Then try Installing or partitioning.Hope that solves your problem.
